I could just use an easy to remember password, but I'd rather let my browser keep a more secure one. that'd require at least a dummy username form field. alternatively, how about a limited login link for just this pending message, straight from the "requires approval"-mail, so I'm authenticated not by password, but by virtue of having received the moderator email? ** Affects: mailman Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mailman Coders, which is subscribed to GNU Mailman. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1302440 Title: action links in "post requires approval" or decent Mod Auth login form To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/1302440/+subscriptions From mark at msapiro.net Tue Apr 8 07:05:23 2014 From: mark at msapiro.net (Mark Sapiro) Date: Tue, 08 Apr 2014 05:05:23 -0000 Subject: [Bug 1302440] Re: action links in "post requires approval" or decent Mod Auth login form References: <20140404092203.17248.81356.malonedeb@chaenomeles.canonical.com> Message-ID: <20140408050524.25957.94366.malone@soybean.canonical.com> If you go to the private archive login page and log in with any email address and the list admin or moderator password, presumably your browser will remember it. This is good. For the Munge From action, the From: and ReplyTo: are modified before these handlers. This means that the message passed to them has the authors address only in the ReplyTo: which is not archived and not in the plain digest by default. It could possibly also adversely affect the news group if the message is gated to Usenet. These modifications should be delayed until after the message is passed to those three handlers. ** Affects: mailman Importance: High Assignee: Mark Sapiro (msapiro) Status: In Progress -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mailman Coders, which is subscribed to GNU Mailman. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1311431 Title: The DMARC Munge From action results in the author's email address to not be in archives or plain digests. The existing address is currently unlinked and unverified, and I'd like to create a user and link it to it Here's what Barry suggests : You might want to create the user and link to it from the existing address resource, i.e. the AnAddress class. Right now, you cannot get directly from the address to its linked user, if it has one. Look at _AddressBase._resource_as_dict() in addresses.py. Sketching out an approach: - The address resource would gain a `user` key if there is a linked user. This would be a url to the user resource. If the address is unlinked, then there would be no such key. - AnAddress would gain a /user sub-resource which would either 404 if the address is unlinked or return the linked user's JSON data. - POSTing to /addresses//user would create a new user and link the address to it, but only if the address is not yet linked. If it's already linked, you'd get a 409 Conflict error. If the new user is created, you'd get 201 Created response. Additional use cases to consider: Q. What if the address is already linked and you want to unlink it? A. DELETE on the /addresses//user resource Q. What if you want to change the user the address is linked to? A. Currently, it's two operations: DELETE the existing link as above, then see below. The other option is to allow a PUT on the /addresses//user resource. Q. What if you want to link the unlinked address to an existing user? A. Maybe allow this in the POST to /addresses//user, i.e. the user would only be created if it doesn't yet exist. If it gets created, you'd get a 201 Created, but if it's just a link operation to an existing user, you'd get a 200 Success response. It's possibly you'd want to include POST boolean that specifies whether creating a new user is okay or not, with the appropriate response codes in the false case. ** Affects: mailman Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mailman Coders, which is subscribed to GNU Mailman. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1312884 Title: REST: creating a user from an existing address To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/1312884/+subscriptions From 1312884 at bugs.launchpad.net Fri Apr 25 21:42:34 2014 From: 1312884 at bugs.launchpad.net (Barry Warsaw) Date: Fri, 25 Apr 2014 19:42:34 -0000 Subject: [Bug 1312884] Re: REST: creating a user from an existing address References: <20140425190317.3910.42503.malonedeb@soybean.canonical.com> Message-ID: <20140425194235.3976.89158.launchpad@soybean.canonical.com> ** Tags added: mailman3 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mailman Coders, which is subscribed to GNU Mailman. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1312884 Title: REST: creating a user from an existing address To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/1312884/+subscriptions From rob-launchpad.net at tigertech.com Sat Apr 26 01:30:50 2014 From: rob-launchpad.net at tigertech.com (Robert Mathews) Date: Fri, 25 Apr 2014 23:30:50 -0000 Subject: [Bug 1312970] [NEW] DMARC munge action breaks CC: header with full personalization References: <20140425233050.25026.38360.malonedeb@wampee.canonical.com> Message-ID: <20140425233050.25026.38360.malonedeb@wampee.canonical.com> Public bug reported: If you use full personalization, the resulting headers on a message usually look like: From: Sender To: Recipient Cc: list at list.tld Note the "Cc:" (added by Mailman/Handlers/CookHeaders.py beginning at line 191). The presence of the Cc: header makes "Reply to All" and "Reply to List" appear in many mail clients. If a DMARC munge happens, Mailman/HandlersModerate.py does this at line 61: msgdata['from_is_list'] = 1 However, CookHeaders.py at line 202 later notices that and fails to add the Cc: header because of it. Because of this, the headers of a munged message, for example, will look like: From: Sender via list Reply-To: Sender To: Recipient There is no "Cc:" header present at all, and popular clients like Gmail don't offer recipients a "Reply to All" choice for DMARC-munged messages. It seems that when using full personalization, the Cc: header should appear whether or not the From and Reply-To were munged due to DMARC. (I have manually verified that if the Cc: header was present -- that is, if the munged headers looked like this: From: Sender via list Reply-To: Sender To: Recipient Cc: list at list.tld ... then Gmail would correctly offer both "Reply" and "Reply to All" options and send them to the right places.) ** Affects: mailman Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mailman Coders, which is subscribed to GNU Mailman. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1312970 Title: DMARC munge action breaks CC: header with full personalization To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/1312970/+subscriptions From mark at msapiro.net Sat Apr 26 02:08:56 2014 From: mark at msapiro.net (Mark Sapiro) Date: Sat, 26 Apr 2014 00:08:56 -0000 Subject: [Bug 1312970] Re: DMARC munge action breaks CC: header with full personalization References: <20140425233050.25026.38360.malonedeb@wampee.canonical.com> Message-ID: <20140426000857.18758.92818.malone@chaenomeles.canonical.com> Thanks for your report and detailed analysis. Setting reply_goes_to_list to either "This list" or "Explicit address" no longer adds the correct Reply-To header *unless* the from/reply-to were munged for DMARC reasons. The expected Reply-To header is missing completely. I may be wrong about why, but it seems that: Line 190 of CookHeaders.py calls change_header() to add the desired Reply-To header. In previous versions, change_header() would unconditionally just set the header directly unless "mlist.from_is_list == 2". Here's the 2.1.17 code; you can see that it would have just run "msg[name] = value" in most cases: def change_header(name, value, mlist, msg, msgdata, delete=True, repl=True): if mm_cfg.ALLOW_FROM_IS_LIST and mlist.from_is_list == 2: msgdata.setdefault('add_header', {})[name] = value elif repl or not msg.has_key(name): if delete: del msg[name] msg[name] = value Now, though, changeheader() is more complicated and ends up using "msgdata.setdefault('add_header'..." instead, because of this: ) or name.lower() in ('from', 'reply-to'): msgdata.setdefault('add_header', {})[name] = value The add_header data later gets examined in WrapMessage.py's "process()". The first test at line 43 of WrapMessage.py is true: if not (msgdata.get('from_is_list') == 2 or (mlist.from_is_list == 2 and msgdata.get('from_is_list') == 0)): But the next test at line 45 is false unless the address has been DMARC- munged: # Now see if we're munging. if msgdata.get('from_is_list') == 1 or (mlist.from_is_list == 1 and msgdata.get('from_is_list') == 0): So we hit the "return" at line 57 and fail to add the header... unless DMARC munging has taken place, in which case the test at line 45 is true and the header gets added. ** Affects: mailman Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Mailman Coders, which is subscribed to GNU Mailman. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1313010 Title: DMARC change breaks reply_goes_to_list To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/mailman/+bug/1313010/+subscriptions From mark at msapiro.net Sat Apr 26 06:53:39 2014 From: mark at msapiro.net (Mark Sapiro) Date: Sat, 26 Apr 2014 04:53:39 -0000 Subject: [Bug 1313010] Re: DMARC change breaks reply_goes_to_list References: <20140426041233.24882.49249.malonedeb@wampee.canonical.com> Message-ID: <20140426045339.26879.67190.malone@gac.canonical.com> Thanks for your report and detailed analysis. I'm afraid I'm going to have to reject this merge proposal though because I think this issue needs to be solved at a different level. The model tries to be as simple as possible, and because the IUser object is a fundamental object, the IUserManager.create_user() method should not implement these additional semantics. On the mailing list, I outlined an approach that I think would be better. In the hopes that you'll continue to contribute to Mailman, I'd like to offer some additional style feedback on your diff. Again, thanks for working on Mailman! === added file 'src/mailman/model/tests/test_usermanager.py' --- src/mailman/model/tests/test_usermanager.py 1970-01-01 00:00:00 +0000 +++ src/mailman/model/tests/test_usermanager.py 2013-12-28 10:18:08 +0000 > +class TestUserManager(unittest.TestCase): > + """Test usermanager.""" > + > + layer = ConfigLayer > + > + def setUp(self): > + self._mlist = create_list('test at example.com') > + #getUtility(IAddress)('no_one at example.com','No one') Of course, you can get rid of that commented out line, but also, since your tests all use the IUserManager utility, it might be better to do something like this in the setUp(): self._user_manager = getUtility(IUserManager) and then use self._user_manager instead of having to get the utility every time. > + > + def test_create_user(self): > + anne = getUtility(IUserManager).create_user( > + 'anne at example.com', 'Anne Person') > + > + def test_create_user_existing_address_user(self): > + anne = getUtility(IUserManager).create_user( > + 'anne at example.com', 'Anne Person') > + self.assertRaises(ExistingAddressError, getUtility(IUserManager).create_user,*( > + 'anne at example.com', 'Anne Person')) You'll want to make sure this line is less than 80 characters wide. Also, you should need the * there. I think the following would work better: self.assertRaises(ExistingAddressError, self._user_manager.create_user, 'anne at example.com', 'Anne Person') > + > + def test_create_user_existing_address_no_user(self): > + anne = getUtility(IUserManager).create_user( > + 'anne at example.com', 'Anne Person') > + noone = getUtility(IUserManager).create_user( > + 'no_one at example.com','No one') > + self.assertTrue(anne.user_id != noone.user_id) It would be better to use self.assertNotEqual() here, since the error message is better should the test ever fail. Mailman uses them in just a few very limited places, and it's almost always to perform some task and then re-raise the exception. Examples are: log the error and then re-raise, or abort the transaction and re-raise. In all other cases, you should catch the appropriate exception explicitly. > + addresses = store.find(Address, email=email.lower()) > + if addresses.count() == 0: > + raise Exception("inconsistent results") Generally, you don't want to raise the base Exception, but instead some more appropriate specific exception. However, in this particular case, the IUserManager already implements this logic in its get_address() method, so it should just call that. Then you can just add an assertion that the address exists, i.e. is not None. That will be logically consistent if you were to catch ExistingAddressError above. E.g. address = self.get_address(email) assert address is not None > + if addresses.one().user == None: As a general style consideration, we never compare against None using equality; always use identity to compare against singletons like None. While the above comments would make most of this code go away, the test should be rewritten like so: if address.one().user is None > + address = addresses.one() > + else: > + raise ExistingAddressError(email) > user.link(address) > + store.add(user) > return user > > @dbconnection -- https://code.launchpad.net/~nkarageuzian/mailman/usermanagement/+merge/200128 Your team Mailman Coders is requested to review the proposed merge of lp:~nkarageuzian/mailman/usermanagement into lp:mailman.
