Agreed!  It won't, and doesn't need to happen.

I wouldn't be opposed to a complete re-write of the bundled archiver,
but it has to be Python.  That might be too much work, so some smaller
step improvements would definitely be accepted.

What would really help me would be for someone out there to claim
"ownership" of the archiver; basically vette patches other
improvements.
