Actually, I went off half-cocked and confused info with texinfo.  Mea
culpa.

Texinfo is a useful and very flexible format, yes, though I do note that
the texinfo distribution seems to include only a very limited selection of
texi-to-end-format output tools, and most of the others that you'd epect
should exist -- the texi2man tool I've been looking for, to name but one
example -- seem very hard to find.


(I still think that as a replacement for man, the info browser is a
horrible tool ...  but that's a completely separate issue from the merits
of texinfo.)
