[Mailman-Developers] Using pipermail on its own

Hi everyone,
I know someone must have asked this already but I can't find anything on 
the subject.

Nowadays (as AMK clearly says on his page) pipermail only lives within 
Mailman. Is it possible, however, to use it by itself?

I.e. I'd have to provide a nicer interface to a set of messages which 
are actually automatically retrieved by a script, and I'd like to avoid 
reinventing the wheel if at all possible.

Since the script is in Python (as most of the development we do here is) 
I'd rather integrate a Python module than resort to an external archiver 
like MHonArc, however nice that is.
