[Mailman-Developers] Is there a direct way to create an address via the REST API?

I can create an address that is not linked to a user by 

1: creating a user with an address
2: unlinking the address from the user

Is there a more direct route to creating an address via REST?

I thought there was a POST /addresses method but I can’t seem to see it now - maybe it was never there.
