[Mailman-Users] Mailman 1.1 doesn't work with Sendmail?

Using v 1.1, it apparently it does not work for non-local users who 
try to subscribe.

The error message in smtp-failures:

Mailman.pythonlib.smtplib.SMTPRecipient
sRefused  / {'user at isp.com': (550, '<user at isp.com>... Relaying

anyone know a workaround?
