[Mailman-Users] search engine? archiving old messages?

Maybe I'm missing something obvious.  I couldn't find any documentation
that answered my questions.

Can a search engine be hooked up to a mailman email archive?  Would I be
exploring new territory to attempt to do so, or have others blazed a
trail?

Can I take a pile of old email and dump it into mailman so it's in the
archive?
