[Mailman-Users] modifying subscribers progammatically

Using Mailman version: 2.1.1

I have a mysql database of members of a club and would like to be able
to have changes to that database propagated to the club's mailing list.
I use python scripts to maintain the database.

1. Can I do everything with 'withlist'? adding, deleting, setting the
do-not-mail flag? The example in 'withlist' shows only
setMemberPassword(). Where do I find any other possible functions that
can be used?

2. Now that mailman is keeping user names, what is the format of the
file for use with add_members, sync_members, etc. to include the name?
Will sync_members update the subscriber's name?

3. What do I need to do to a (python) script I write so that it can
modify a list? Does it need to be in a particular location? What
permissions? (Everything is on my debian linux box.)
