Yeah, it would.  You can copy the file to lists/<listname>/<language>/ and
then edit it just for one list.

I didn't see the original post, so I don't know if you mentioned what
version you're using.  This only works for 2.1 and up.  I'm guessing that's
what you have, but I mention it to save you some hair pulling if you're
using 2.0.
