AH... !
Thanks for the clue... the administrator of that list (goodness knows
why!) had added the following to the bottom of the standard stuff there:

Content-Type: multipart/alternative;
boundary="----=_NextPart_000_02FE_01C2EAD5.37C6BC20"
======================================
I have just deleted it... and we'll see if that makes a difference.
