OK, so exim is working. This should result in the message being added
to the appropriate Mailman queue. Is Mailman (the qrunners) running to
process the queues?

Those are possibly problems, but not enough to explain problems with
several messages.

Look in Mailman's qfiles. I suspect you'll see the messages in
qfiles/in/ indicating that at least IncomingRunner is not running.
