What happened when you did the useradd command?

There are two issues with the manual:

1) useradd -c''GNU Mailman'' -s /no/shell -d /no/home -g mailman mailman

should be either

useradd -c"GNU Mailman" -s /no/shell -d /no/home -g mailman mailman

or

useradd -c'GNU Mailman' -s /no/shell -d /no/home -g mailman mailman

2) you need to be root or use sudo

Also, if you don't actually know how to add a user to your system, you
may not have enough sysadmin experience to successfully install mailman.
The installation manual tries to be complete, but it assumes a certain
level of background knowledge.
