[Matplotlib-devel] OpenGL backend efforts?

Hi everyone,

I was curious as to whether there are currently any active efforts to write
a Matplotlib OpenGL backend? In the past I've seen several starts at a
backend, including for example in the VisPy package, but the latter has now
been removed:

Is anyone aware of more recent or maintained efforts?
