Message-ID: This week marks your last opportunity to submit proposals to present at PyCon Australia 2013, the national conference for the Python programming community, to be held on July 6 and 7 in Hobart, Tasmania. The deadline for proposal submission is Friday April 5, 2013, and more information can be found at http://pycon-au.org/cfp PyCon Australia is an excellent opportunity to share experience and knowledge with like-minded Python developers from all walks of life -- we attract professional developers from industry, government, science and education, along with enthusiast and student developers. Presentations can be targeted at all skill levels, on any topic related to Python programming. This year, we're welcoming DjangoCon AU under the PyCon Australia umbrella, it'll run on Friday 5 July, before the main conference. Every Django-related proposal we receive in the PyCon Australia CFP will also be considered as part of the DjangoCon AU programme. Our OpenStack Miniconf is running a separate CFP, and first-round submissions close on April 9. Details can be found at the OpenStack Miniconf CFP site (http://tinyurl.com/pyconau-2013-openstack). If you're a first-time Python developer, don't be afraid to submit a presentation -- we're a community-driven conference, and we have a focus on building the next generation of Python programmers. We can't wait to see your proposals. == About PyCon Australia == PyCon Australia is the national conference for the Python Programming Community. The fourth PyCon Australia will be held on July 5--7, 2013 in Hobart, Tasmania, bringing together professional, student and enthusiast developers with a love for developing with Python. Message-ID: Hi Melbourne Pythonistas, This Saturday we have our Websites with Python Flask workshop coming at Electron Workshop in North Melbourne, and I'm encouraging Melbourne Pythonistas to come along and help coach. (Check it out on Meetup! http://www.meetup.com/OpenTechSchool-Melbourne/events/107854462/) It's web stuff, but still quite simple. It has a server-side focus, handling simple things like writing a function to accept a HTTP request and rendering a template response. There isn't much HTML or CSS, and there isn't any Javascript at all. The Flask documentation is great as well, so you can usually work through the documentation to help solve problems. I would encourage you to come along even if you haven't done any web beyond simple HTML. If you aren't too confident with the web stuff then that is cool too. We are also encouraging beginners to come and do the beginner workshop with Turtle which is all just simple Python stuff. Simple things like variables, loops and functions. Also, it's a great way to chat with fellow Pythonistas! We get a fairly broad spectrum of Python community coming along to coach. So if you are interested, please send me a reply!. It's this Saturday at Electron Workshop, 31 Arden St, North Melbourne. If coaches could arrive at 11:45am that would be awesome. See you this Saturday! -- Steven -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... HTTPS is available on our registration server (see https://2013.pycon-au.org/ ), however the cert will identify itself as lca2013.linux.org.au (which is the site of another conference run by Linux Australia, our parent organisation, which had registration run on the same server). If you're happy to trust the cert on that basis, then feel free to use HTTPS. Obviously, we're not going to publish that as the 'official way', because it looks a tad dodgy. It's hard to find members of the Python community with more diverse interests than Alex. As well as his contributions to Python and Django, he works as a Software Engineer at Rdio; he's also responsible for Topaz, a Ruby implementaton (completely written in Python, of course). These interests have led him to wonder about the type of work programmers do: "Are we engineers? Are we scientists? Craftspeople? Something else entirely? Are software engineers, software developers, software architects, and programmers all really the same thing?", asks Alex. "My keynote explores the nature of our work as programmers, and its relationship to the scientific method." As well as being a regular presenter at Python conferences all over the world, Alex serves as a board member of the Django Software Foundation and as a member of the Python Software Foundation. We at PyCon Australia can't wait to hear Alex's insights on the role of the prorgrammer in July! Registration is open at http://2013.pycon-au.org with Early Bird rates available to the first 80 paid delegates, or until Friday 3 May, 2013. == About PyCon Australia == PyCon Australia is the national conference for the Python Programming Community.
