Message-ID: <9602082149.AA01214@arnold.image.ivab.se> Hi, Just talked (eh, mailed) a little with David Ascher and we both thought it's about time to create an IMAGE SIG, devoted to Graphics, Image File Formats, Document Imaging, GIS, and Scientific Image Processing, using tools like my (yet to be seen) imaging library, the matrix extension, imageop, publically available packages, and more. This group would provide a general forum for people interested in image handling and processing; ranging from just reading and writing image files on to heavy-duty scientific image processing, geographical information systems, remote sensing, and such... On the initial agenda, what about stuff like... - providing a basic extension module to read and write common image file formats, and carry out common tasks like resize, cut/paste, dithering, ... - providing image display capabilities for the common GUI extensions (Tk, Wpy/MFC, X, Mac) - creating interfaces to image processing packages like XITE, ImgStar, Khoros, and more - putting really good image support into Grail :-) - developing image processing extensions to the Matrix library And yes, I guess I'm mad enough to coordinate this effort... Initially, we plan to: - provide an image extension module, which supports reading and writing common image file formats, and basic processing functions like resize, cut/paste, dithering, etc. - provide common image display capabilities for GUI extensions (Tk, Wpy/MFC, X). - develop image processing extensions to the Matrix library. - provide interfaces to publically available image processing packages like Khoros, ImgStar, XITE, and more. About this list: Additions and deletions are all automated via Majordomo. For details, send the word `help' in the body of a mail message to the Administrivia address given below. The subscription policy is `open', meaning you can add or delete yourself at any time, but you cannot add or delete anyone else without approval. This list is unmoderated and unrestricted. This means that anybody can post messages to the list. Messages are archived and available for download, as are perhaps other useful files. For details, send the word `index' in the body of a message to the Administrivia address. Post messages to the everyone on the list by using the List address. If you absolutely must to contact a human being, use the Owner address. ============================================================ List address: image-sig@python.org Administrivia: image-sig-request@python.org Owner: image-sig-owner@python.org ============================================================ ================= META-SIG - SIG on Python.Org SIGs and Mailing Lists send messages to: meta-sig@python.org administrivia to: meta-sig-request@python.org ================= From Barry A.
