From akuchlin@mems-exchange.org Tue Mar 13 14:43:11 2001 From: akuchlin@mems-exchange.org (Andrew Kuchling) Date: Tue, 13 Mar 2001 09:43:11 -0500 Subject: [meta-sig] Winding up the String-SIG Message-ID: Some recent spam sent to the mailing list have reminded me of the existence of the String-SIG. It's supposed to have expired in June 2000, and there seems nothing for a String-SIG to discuss; the Unicode/8-bit string issue would be resolved on python-dev, if anywhere, and no one in the SIG is working on other string-related things like parsing. I'd propose that it be marked inactive and the mailing list retired. Of course, the archives remain on-line with the same url as before. -Barry From Jonathan Pennington Tue Mar 20 12:57:21 2001 From: Jonathan Pennington (Jonathan Pennington) Date: Tue, 20 Mar 2001 07:57:21 -0500 Subject: [meta-sig] embedded-sig proposal Message-ID: <20010320075721.A12469@coastalgeology.org> Hello all, I come from the edu-sig list and my own project to develop a suite of Python tools and an embedded Python to use in educational robotics (http://eggo.sourceforge.net) to suggest a new SIG. There has lately been discussion on my project to use Python to teach programming and robotics, and that has spilled over into the method of using Python for robots, including platform and module issues. I decided that instead of just hacking away until I got a Python that worked, since there was so much interest, I would try to formalize the procedure so that all Pythonistas can have input and information on the process of developing an embedded version of Python and tools to help teach Python robotics programming. The discussion will continue regardless, and I can easily add a list to my EGg0 project, but I thought it might be better if this were kept closer to home. Time Frame: Perhaps one year, March 2002. Short desc: "Discussion and development of Python for embedded systems." Longer desc: "This SIG is provided to implement an embedded version of Python with a focus on, but in no way limited to, robotic/data aquisition applications. The discussion will include such factors as hard ware platforms, module limitations, embedding methods, current solutions, etc. The goal is to produce a strong, embedded version of Python within 1 year." -J -- Jonathan Pennington | john@coastalgeology.org "A computer without windows is like a dog without bricks tied to its head." You also get a small amount of bounce messages (only the ones that Mailman cannot decypher). In return, you get your name in print on websites. I've got enough of that. :-) --Guido van Rossum (home page: http://www.python.org/~guido/) From guido@digicool.com Wed Mar 21 22:12:29 2001 From: guido@digicool.com (Guido van Rossum) Date: Wed, 21 Mar 2001 17:12:29 -0500 Subject: [meta-sig] Wanted: new meta-sig wner In-Reply-To: Your message of "Wed, 21 Mar 2001 17:04:00 EST." <200103212204.RAA12516@cj20424-a.reston1.va.home.com> References: <200103212204.RAA12516@cj20424-a.reston1.va.home.com> Message-ID: <200103212212.RAA12633@cj20424-a.reston1.va.home.com> I wrote: > I'm sick of owning the meta-sig.
