[Moin-user] Error: "data_dir" does not exist

Hi all,
I have tried to install Moinmoin on a server with ftp access only. I
closely followed the instructions, and the core seems to work, but there
seems to be a problem with the data_dir. When accessing index.py with the
browser, I get the error message:

<error>
MoinMoin Configuration Error

"data_dir" does not exists at
"/home/httpd/vhosts/jasyjatere.com/cgi-bin/slmwiki/data", or has incorrect
ownership and permissions.
Make sure the directory and the subdirectory pages are owned by the web
server and are readable, writable and executable by the web server user
and group.
It is recommended to use absolute paths and not relative paths. Check also
the spelling of the directory name.
</error>

The paths and spellings are correct, and I have even set global
permissions:

data	4.00 KB Sept 21, 2005 jasyjatere	psacln	rwx rwx rwx

Relative paths did not change anything.
Even when I had put the data dir below DOCUMENT ROOT (which is not
recommended), Moin could not access it, whereas apache could.

This seems to be a common problem
(http://www.google.com/search?q=MoinMoin+Configuration+Error+%22data_dir%22+does+not+exists+at+&btnG=Search)

Any suggestions?
Thank you very much
Sebastian

my wikiconfig.py:

# -*- coding: iso-8859-1 -*-
# IMPORTANT! This encoding (charset) setting MUST be correct! If you live
in a
# western country and you don't know that you use utf-8, you probably want
to
# use iso-8859-1 (or some other iso charset). If you use utf-8 (a Unicode
# encoding) you MUST use: coding: utf-8
# That setting must match the encoding your editor uses when you modify the
# settings below. If it does not, special non-ASCII chars will be wrong.

MoinMoin - Configuration for a single wiki

If you run a single wiki only, you can omit the farmconfig.py config
file and just use wikiconfig.py - it will be used for every request
     we get in that case.

Note that there are more config options than you'll find in
the version of this file that is installed by default; see
the module MoinMoin.multiconfig for a full list of names and their
     default values.

     Also, the URL http://moinmoin.wikiwikiweb.de/HelpOnConfiguration has
     a list of config options.
