Current versions of MoinMoin do not have this feature: there is one and
only one storage backend for MoinMoin 1.7 and 1.8, namely the simple
filesystem layout where each page is a directory.  If I understand the
plans, 1.9 will be basically the same.

Things are supposed to get more interesting around 2.0 -- I believe that
is where the branch you discovered is due to be merged in.
