You are misusing computers IMHO!  :-)

I want the *computer* to do the work, I'm rubbish at sorting things
into date order and things like that.  I want to simply be able to
create a load of articles with, somehow, a date set in them and then
the *computer* can list them in date order.  Creating the list myself
is doing stuff myself that the computer can do better.

I take your point that maybe the way I'm trying to do it is wrong, but
then I'd appreciate some way of doing it 'right'.  I've been looking
for something to help me do this for a long time, blog software goes
some of the way but does everything in reverse, I want forward sorting.

Yes, that's fine, but I want to automate generating the table from
