In file lib/python2.6/lib-dynload/Python-2.6-py2.6.egg-info, after a 
fresh installation of Python 2.6 there are two lines for Development 
status both Alpha and Mature:

Platform: Many
Classifier: Development Status :: 3 - Alpha
Classifier: Development Status :: 6 - Mature
Classifier: License :: OSI Approved :: Python Software Foundation 
License
