[Numpy-discussion] Compiling for free on Windows32

Thomasm,

What want is the current latest Numpy as a win32 .egg file for Python
2.4.4. I'm not bothered how I get there. We've been able to compile
numpy 1.1.1 on visual studio 2003 with no problems at all. I've not yet
been able to get anything newer to work.

At the moment I'm trying to build using the setupegg.py file which comes
with the Numpy 1.3.0 distribution. After about 5 minutes of compiling it
abruptly like this:

http://pastebin.com/d67dd871

Previously I was told that this is because of a bug in VC++ 2003,
however I've just been informed that it's not possible to use a later
version of VC++ if I am building for python 2.4.

So what *do* I use to to compile Numpy for Python 2.4.4?

In summary my requirments:

* Latest Numpy + Scipy
* Each as a .egg file
* Works with python.org's Cpython 2.4.4 for windows 32bit
* Dont care how I make it as long as it works!

:-)

What I've heard is that easy_install can install from bdist_wininst
installers, I guess it converts them into egg format. Is that what you
want?
