[Patches] Change to attribute error message for instances.

I will re-raise my suggestion that somewhere along the way Python needs
error codes as well as error messages (maybe not until Py3k).  I know it
won't be easy to do, but if people are really parsing exception messages in
their scripts, it suggests a need for error codes to make that job easier.
