Summary: build support for GNU/Hurd
Initial Comment:
Attached is a patch to build python 2.2 on GNU/Hurd.
The patch was originally submitted by James A Morrison
<ja2morri@student.math.uwaterloo.ca> to the Debian
BTS. If wanted, a patch for 2.1.1 can be provided as
well.

Python doesn't have "maintenance" releases, it has "bugfix"
releases. They're solely to fix bugs. Because Unixish
config is such a friggin' mess, there's a long history of
putatively harmless tweaks for new platforms breaking the
build on established obscure platforms. So Martin was just
giving the Party Line here <wink>. We'll be delighted to
incorporate GNU/Hurd support for 2.3, though.

I don't insist. However looking at other projects like gcc,
ports to other platforms are considered for inclusion in
maintainance releases.

The patch looks fine to me.
There is zero chance, though, that it will be incorporated
into any 2.1 release, and little chance that it will be
incorporated into 2.2 (unless you insist). The patch looks
harmless, but it does add a new feature, strictly speaking
(support for the Hurd).
