Proposal to host PyCon-APAC 2018 in Singapore

The snake must come home.

1. A proposal introduction which describes the motivation for the proposal.

PyCon APAC originated in Singapore (2010 - 2012). After doing its run in
Japan (2013), Taiwan (2014 - 2015), Korea (2016) and Malaysia (2017),
pending the readiness of other APAC Python communities, Singapore is ready
to host PyCon APAC again in 2018.

Pycon-APAC will be a 3-day conference: 2 days of regular presentations
organized in 2 tracks, and 1 day of tutorials and workshops. We expect 50%
of data science related presentations. Due to the increased popularity of
Python in primary and secondary schools in Singapore, there will be 2
satellite events:

? Education Summit : A one-day pre-conference event called BuildingBloCS
for O-Level and A-Level Computing students and teachers (by invitation
only) and interested educators (not vendors). The event is supported by
Ministry of Education, Singapore and Google SG/APAC.

? Young Kids coding workshop: For primary school and lower secondary school
students or equivalent by secondary school / junior college students.

2. A description of the on-site team, its members and history in the
context of their

local Python community.

Python User Group Singapore (PUGS) was originally established as a legal
entity for the purpose of running PyCon Asia-Pacific. PUGS was registered
on 9 June 2009, with the Registry of Societies, Ministry of Home Affairs,
Republic of Singapore; and gazette on 10 June 2009 vide Notification Number
1733. To date, PUGS had organized 3 PyCon-APAC (2010 - 2012) and 4 PyCon SG
(2013 - 2016) conferences.
