The HTML version with automatically generated navigation is finished:
http://styx.livinglogic.de/~walter/www.python.org-converted/

The conversion script extracts all links in all sidebars and tries
to created a sitemap tree from that.

(The generated site structure is available from
http://styx.livinglogic.de/~walter/www.python.org-converted/pages.py
)

Unfortunately it seems to be pretty hopeless to go in this direction.
2/3rds of the pages don't even appear in the sidebar. Most appear in
a strange spot, because they have a "shortcut link" from some page etc.

A better solution might be to keep the link structure as it is and
transform it to a real tree structure piece by piece.

Anyway, the source is available at
http://styx.livinglogic.de/~walter/www.python.org-converted/site.tar.bz2
(23 MB)

Bye,
