Well, it's not a fundamentally bad idea - but 13 times for one story is
excessive. :-)

The categories also seem a bit odd.

For example "Computer Graphics", "Film", "Risk Management" and "Visual
Effects" all have a single identical entry (Industrial Light & Magic).

The same for "Apparel Industry" and "Customer Relationship Management".

There are two categories for "Simulation", with Carmanah in both (and
Resolver Systems being the only other entry in the second).

"GIS and Mapping" appears as a category three times, with a single
identical entry each time.

It seems like the page would be improved by some rationalisation /
cleanup of the categories.

All the best,

Michael

Or adding more success stories or allow users submit them.

As editor of most of the current set of success stories, I should note
that I am no longer collecting new stories. It takes a lot of time
because they are usually submitted in a form that requires a lot of
extra editing and interviewing. I also think Python is past the point
where it needs this. We've moved into the mainstream now in many
business sectors, where in the past the showcased companies were
isolated cases.

Of course I don't mind in the least if others disagree and want to
continue with this. The official home of these used to be
pythonology.org but I think they should now be considered at home on
python.org. The authors and companies involved gave permissions for web
and print use (with the exception of Philips, Test&Go, and Eric
Raymond's story which did not allow print use). I have documentation of
all this that I will hand over to the PSF in some form.

Please change "Please consider donating to the Python Software Foundation, a ..." to "Please donate to the Python Software Foundation, a ...".

Anyone can consider donating. I'd like to encourage people a bit more strongly than that, since the Board is a valuable service to them as well as to Python users.

Hi,

I'm Tiago, from Portugal and I've just joined this list.

I've noticed that you're trying to organize the sponsors page in order to
highlight the more generous sponsors [1].
Well, I've recently been handling the content for an agile development
conference here in Portugal and we've done something similar, I believe it
could be easily ported to the python's www page.
Have a look at it: http://2011.agilept.org/sponsors and let me know what
were you thinking to do with it.

It seems like a good first step would be to make a Sponsors page so the logos are not all off the bottom of the screen when the page loads.

Having separate sections within the page for the different sponsorship levels makes sense, too. The sponsorship levels are defined on http://www.python.org/psf/sponsorship/ but I don't see anything describing which level each sponsor signed up for on the main PSF page or on the membership roster. Pat Campbell should be able to help put that together.

Tiago, are you set up with svn, so you can check out the site source and make changes?

Doug

I'll try to mockup something during the weekend and I'll get back to you
with a static example for validation and opinions. If you like it, then once
we have the sponsorship details we can update the actual repository.

Hey all,

We've just had two reports on webmaster at python.org about ipv6

however if I try via claranet I get failures too:

I'd like to just report that python.org (and subdomains) is not avaiable

The problem started yesterday in the evening CEST. I'm observing the

It looks like a routing problem in the core IPv6. I don't know the exact
area affected, but entries like 'telia.net' or 'geant2.net' suggest it's
not a local issue. Access via some Teredo server in the Netherlands
seems ok.

Maybe it's a good idea to drop AAAA DNS records for python.org
temporarily, especially that easy_install and such are broken on
affected networks with IPv6-enabled hosts (and automatic fallback to
IPv4 does not always work, at least in my case).

All the best,

Michael Foord

Hi Doug & Tiago:

Per your request regarding the online posting of the current 2011 sponsor
fee level
for each sponsor, I can provide that information to you. However, I am
still receiving
the sponsor fee level information from some of our sponsors.

And, since all sponsors have not submitted their fee level information for
2011, maybe
we can proceed to include those sponsors who have submitted their 2011
information
now and then add the others to the webpage once I have received the
information and
submitted it to pydotorg.

Please let me know what you would like to do.

Thanks,
Pat
I
think we may be able to

Hi,

Is there any wiki or similar that you guys use to manage that information?
If you could read that page we could check it out once we're ready to update
the site. Also, you just had to update that page we wouldn't bore you again.
If not, I guess you can old on to that info for a while.

I'll need to manage some time to rethink the page: I have my thesis for
delivery for next week and i'll be attending a conference I'm co-organizing
during next week also (not europython :\).

It's been brought to my attention that there's no mention of PyCon
Australia on the official pycon blog :-)

Anyone know how I remedy this?

I don't think we have a page like that already, but we could certainly create one. I wouldn't expect the information to change very often, though, so it might be just as easy for Pat to send the info here to the list.

Of course it is 2011 NOT 2010. Hence:

then I will gather and send it to the list.

Hello Postmaster,

It seems that the mailman 500 error page asks users to contact the
server administrator on "webmaster at python.org". See the report from
Laura below (which subsequently fixed itself pretty quickly).

Could the error 500 template for mailman pages be changed to point users
to the postmaster alias which I suspect is a better address for
reporting problems?

All the best,

Michael Foord

I just got this message:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster at mail.python.org and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

All I did was to approve 2 messages from the conferences mailing list
which were being held up due to the fact that the poster was not a
subscriber to the conferences mailing list.

It just happened, say 11:00 MET (Berlin, Stockholm, Paris).

Thank you,
Laura

Hi folks,

It would be great to have a link to the upcoming
PyCon DE

http://de.pycon.org

at these places:

http://www.python.org/community/workshops/
http://www.pycon.org/

Also a short news entry at http://www.python.org/

would help.

Please let me know if I need to address somebody else.

Thanks.
Mike

Thanks! How do I get the conference linked in the sidebar? I can't see
anything obvious in the blog admin pages I have access to...

There are few more PyCons missing in the sidebar:

Finland http://fi.pycon.org/
Ireland http://python.ie/pyconireland/
Ukraine http://python.ie/pyconireland/

as well as the US state-wide Python conferences:

PyOhio http://pyohio.org/
PyTexas http://pytexas.org/
PyArkansas http://www.pyarkansas.org/

and the Django Cons, if they count:

DjangoCon US http://djangocon.us/
DjangoCon Europe http://2011.djangocon.eu/

same for Plone:

Plone conf http://www.ploneconf2010.org/

or conferences with Python percentage:

RuPy http://rupy.eu/
OSCON (commercial) http://www.oscon.com/oscon2011

No idea if the last ones should be on the blog.

Ejem

prim = query.value(0).toString()
seg = query.value(1).toInt()

#prim me regresa "admin" el cual es el dato correcto
#seg me regresa una tupla con 6 y True, el cual solo el valor 6 es correcto
pero no se porque tambien me regresa True, para obtener el valor correcto
tengo que hacer query.value(1).toInt()[0]

Espero me puedan resolver la duda, gracias

Could someone please add a new DNS entry for "speed.python.org"
pointing to 140.211.15.123 - I'm not sure if pydotorg-www is in
control of the DNS entries or just Martin, so I'm emailing both!
