Hello guys,

I'm part of the codemera
<http://t.sigopn03.com/e1t/c/5/f18dQhb0S7lC8dDMPbW2n0x6l2B9nMJW7t5XZs4XyMQRN7gs82vRzzqPW8qC87H56dD86f31FM9v02?t=http%3A%2F%2Fcodemera.com%2F&si=5192437968928768&pi=c0c70345-e547-4919-ebf6-750e29cc938e>
team. We are an independent software company based in Dominican Republic.
We recently became part of the Python Software Foundation and we will like
to be part of the Python Consulting Page
<http://t.sigopn03.com/e1t/c/5/f18dQhb0S7lC8dDMPbW2n0x6l2B9nMJW7t5XZs4XyMQRN7gs82vRzzqPW8qC87H56dD86f31FM9v02?t=https%3A%2F%2Fwiki.python.org%2Fmoin%2FPythonConsulting&si=5192437968928768&pi=c0c70345-e547-4919-ebf6-750e29cc938e>
.

We were reading about how to be part, and we understand we can edit the
info, but as we just signed up we are not allowed, if is not an
inconvenient, we will like to ask to be added to the EditorsGroup so we can
add our info to the page. Our US is codemera.

Thanks in advance,

Not sure what you mean by "US", but if you mean user name, then great!
I've just empowered any user of that name to make edits :)

Hey Chris,

We're still not able to edit the page. Maybe the username is wrong or
something, we realized we may have not given you the correct one, Codemera
("C" in caps).

Do you think this may be the problem?

Thanks in advance,

I just signed up for a new account.

I would like to add New Mexico to list of states with a Local Python User's Group.
We have one: http://www.meetup.com/AbqPython/
So I want to see that listed on this page: https://wiki.python.org/moin/LocalUserGroups

I am looking for a place where we can create sub-pages under the home page for that Meetup group, edit meeting notes, discuss various Python things, have members create and maintain their own Wiki Python pages, etc. This site seems like the logical place to do that. If you feel otherwise, just say so and I will look for a different Wiki home for our Meetup group.

If you want to add the group to the Local User Groups yourself and get us started with a place to create sub pages for our group, that would be great.

Please let me know.

Thanks!

This part I have no idea about, sorry. I'm just a "humble

Creating sub-pages is easy: just add the URL for the subpage to
the main pages URL, e.g.

https://wiki.python.org/moin/AbqPython/
https://wiki.python.org/moin/AbqPython/Meeting20150511/
https://wiki.python.org/moin/AbqPython/Sprint2015/
etc.

The wiki is for the community to use, so we invite you do to :-)

Dear list members,

FYI: there's a new PSF WG dealing with python.org.

I frankly don't know why this list was ignored again in this process
(just like it was for the python.org redesign), but I at least wanted
you to know about it:

https://wiki.python.org/psf/PydotorgWG

It's just as closed as the redesign group was... :-(

I've CCed Van, the chair of the WG, to check whether we can change
this.

Cheers,

Thank you, Marc-Andre, for your reply, and thank you Chris for your reply.

My username is according to the suggested guidelines, so: 'ErikJohnson'.

I have some general Wiki experience, but no first-hand knowledge about the way things work here. So each user of our local group that wants to create or edit pages under our group would also make the same application via email to get editor privileges?

Looking forward to getting better connected to and better documented about Python, both locally and abroad.

Thanks, guys!

Is this being discussed on the board-private list?

No. I've been working on the site (picking up from the previous -redesign
efforts) for a number of months. In addition to bugs or other issues with
the site, one key problem was that we didn't have the facility to
reasonably invite others to participate.

We are close to getting that all set. We are migrating all the work to
public repositories, we created a distributed ownership model for content,
we opened up a public bug tracker (which I believe has been announced here,
among other places), and soon we will have a public workflow that will
allow everyone to work on the site together.

It takes planning and support to create a distributed system that isn't
frustrating... so I am working on that so we can transition to a model that
invites open participation.

In the mean time, this hasn't been closed. We have had three or four public
working sessions, the most recent being at PyCon. We had a number of people
participate, and it was in those sessions that we made the plan so that we
could move to broader community ownership of parts of the site and figured
out what would need to be done to support that kind of collaboration.

Sorry, sounds like I hit a nerve.

"No" would have been enough for me. I am more interested in what is being
discussed and why.

but on the subject of the site, if I want to hack on the jobs board, is
this the right repo to fork?

Yep and then submit pull request to get it checked in.

Berker has been investing a lot of work into getting the
system more documented:

https://github.com/python/pythondotorg/tree/master/docs
and
http://pythondotorg.readthedocs.org/

and is also aiming to make it more easily locally installable:

https://github.com/python/pythondotorg/pull/537
and
https://github.com/python/pythondotorg/compare/master...berkerpeksag:switch-to-ansible

Also note the 'load_dev_fixtures' management command which gives you the
data necessary for the site to "work" much more easily than before.

Dear:

I just created my user for Python Wiki. I can not create my Wiki Home Page, or even edit the Schools Using Python section.

I am Associate Professor, since 2014 Director of the Chair of Algorithms and Data Structures (AED) (National Technological University - Regional Faculty C?rdoba) - Argentina. (http://www.institucional.frc.utn.edu.ar/sistemas/Areas/Academica/Docentes.asp)

>From 2015 we have added Python as a language for this subject, and I would like to incorporate Schools Using Python section.

Greetings and thanks.

guessing the problem is:

Should I post here or open a github issue?

Because there is pydotorg at python.org and infrastructure at python.org
and all communication takes place using those closed channels?

http://lists.openstack.org/pipermail/openstack-dev/2015-February/056551.html

Unless core pydotorg developers have this attitude, people from outside
will always be ignored.

Or don't have the desire? Github + Blog works quite well for thousands of
open source projects out there. PyCon sprints is also a good place.

What ownership? IIRC PSF owns everything on *.python.org sites.

I raised all these question few years ago. What happened since then?
Who is making decisions? Why the change all of the sudden?

Too abstract to me. If PSF can sponsor integration of PyPI with OpenID
Connect - that would be a first step to distributed, non-frustrating system.
Also, if you really want to make a workflow - don't try to make it and impose
as some universal law - just remove the obstacles and people will make
it themselves.

Well, it can clarify the workflow if you can provide example of how "community
ownership" decided to go with Apache 2 license, why the stack as it is now. It
will also help if before acting you could run a poll to gather some
data about site
or at least give some concise report on the analysis.

I would like to either edit or suggest an edit to the description of the
IDE, Exedore, on the page.

The forwarded email from the developer verifies that the input() function
is not supported, meaning any programs requiring console input using
input() will not work in this IDE. I believe that is significant and
should be pointed out.

The edit I suggest to the description of Exedore is as follows:

Current description:

Commercial with feature-limited free trial. A Mac-native, single-window IDE
inspired by Xcode. Features integrated debugger, tabs, code completion with
tab triggers, syntax highlighting themes, search and replace with regex,
integrated REPL sessions, goto definition, file browser, integrated
documentation browser.

Add one sentence:

As of June 2015, does not support input() meaning any console input using
this function is not supported.

Hi John,

sorry, but input() is not currently supported, and I don't have any docs :(

Hi,

I have the latest version and purchased a license. Running on Mac OX
10.10.3 (Yosemite).

I noticed if there is an input() function, the system will hang, message
"Initializing Python Interpreter" and the segmented circle to the right of
the X (Stop) button continues to go clockwise.

*import* os*,* sys

*if* __name__ *==* '__main__'*:*
    print*(*"Python Version: " *+* sys*.*version*)*
    print*(*"Python Executable: " *+* sys*.*executable*)*
    print*(*"Env var TEST_NAME: " *+* os*.*getenv*(*'TEST_NAME'*,* *None))*

print*(*'Enter the first number to add:'*)*
first *=* input*()*

If I take out the last line, first = input() it will run.

Not sure what the issue is.

Second, is there any documentation or readme file that I can download?

Thanks,

John

Hello.

I wanted to make some changes https://wiki.python.org/moin/TestPyPI
but I can't. https://wiki.python.org/moin/FrontPage#Editing_pages
asked me to send an email here. The changes would only name the
session "[testpypi]" instead of "[pypitest]" (to match the URL) and
change the call from

   python setup.py register -r https://testpypi.python.org/pypi

to

python setup.py register -r testpypi # Using the name of the config
section instead

I don't have plans to keep editing the wiki so maybe I don't need the
permissions. If one finds those changes relevant however, one may
apply them.

Thanks.

Hi -

In
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/30845469/time-complexity-of-python-set-intersection-for-n-sets/30845721#30845721
it was noted that the time complexity for intersecting two sets is slightly
wrong and I'd like to fix that or have someone fix that. My account is
rockyb.

O(min(len(s), len(t)) is applicable if the argument, t, is a set and not an
iterable. If it is an iterable, I think the "min" has to be changed to
"max". One might also consider adding information for intersecting multiple
sets.

Thanks.

I honestly don't know about this part; you'll have to do your own
verification to make sure this is indeed what it should say. But
that's the beauty of a wiki... if you're wrong, someone else can fix
it :)

Hi Chris,

I can no longer log in Python.org. I try to get my password emailed, but
nothing gets sent. Has anything changed?

Thanks!

Google has switched off support for OpenID.
Launchpad still works for OpenID.

We haven't yet solved what the best procedure is for
reactivating accounts which did not have a password
set (only OpenID).

It may be best to create a new account with password.

Chris,

OK. I'm in. I think my username somehow got changed from Nat Dunn with a
space to NatDunn without a space.

In any case, I can no longer add training events to the Python training page
<https://wiki.python.org/moin/PythonTraining>. Can you set me up with that
again?

Thanks!

Nat

Hello,

My name is Euripides Vrachnos and I'm a computer science teacher in
secondary education (high school) in greece.
I have just signed up to your wiki and I would like to add my school to the
high schools that use Python in programming courses.
I don't want to be a permanent editor, just want to add only this
information, so if you could just add this entry I would be grateful.
My school is :

Zanneio Experimental High School, Piraeus, Greece
Instructor: Euripides Vrachnos
School Web page http://gym-peir-zanneio.att.sch.gr/
My web page http://evripides.mysch.gr

Best Regards
Euripides Vrachnos

Hi! There's nothing temporary about editorship, so you may as well
have the power permanently. All I need to know is the name you signed
up using, and I'll make you an editor!

I've created an account on wiki.python, org (username goo8ose), so I can
add myself as a speaker at the next MelbournePUG meeting.

Could I please have edit access?

Cheers,

Hi,

We have published several books on Python and have many lined up in the pipeline. Unfortunately we are unable to edit the wiki pages to add any new titles to the list of Python books. Please guide me in getting our book information on the Python Wiki page.

Message-ID: <F7F337D2B0404C72B3FA5CD733249E74@datasoft.local>

Hi, I wanted to create an account and an error page keeps repeating over and
over again. It says that account with my e-mail already exists but I never
created account on python wiki. That is sad.
Maybe you can help. I just wanted to add new drivers to your wiki page
https://wiki.python.org/moin/SQL%20Server
We released some days ago SQL Server ODBC driver and we thought that it
could fit in there. Here is a driver https://www.devart.com/odbc/sqlserver/
in the nearest days we will include a support of Linux and Mac OS X both on
32 and 64 bit platforms.

What do you say? Can I rely on your support?

There is an account for you on the system called SampleMan.
If you've forgotten the password, you can use the recovery
function to set a new one.

While it's always nice to see new ODBC drivers appear on the market,
I fail to see the relationship between your driver and Python.

The page you mentioned is meant for Python interface to SQL Server.

Thank you, Marc. Are there any additional instructions/notes I need to keep in mind whilst editing the wiki pages?

We have these general guidelines:

https://wiki.python.org/moin/WikiGuidelines

and some more popular pages also have per-page guidelines, e.g.
they require adding new entries to the end or the top of listings.
If not, a quick look at the order used on the page will usually give
you a good hint.

If in doubt, please ask here.

Hi folks,

I am one of the maintainers at our local "Python Delhi User group
(Pydelhi)", earlier
known as NCR-Python.

I would like to edit the wiki section:
https://wiki.python.org/moin/LocalUserGroups#India
with the correct and most upto information about our group.

As per the guidelines at https://wiki.python.org/moin/FrontPage#use i'm
writing to this
list. My username/name is "theskumar" on the wiki.

Thanks in advance, let me know if anyone has any queries.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to suggest a resource which can be added to Beginners Guide,
where people can learn Python.

https://wiki.python.org/moin/BeginnersGuide/NonProgrammers

http://www.talk-it.biz/tutorial-categories/python/

This resource has Python course for beginners.

Thank you,

Artiom

Hi! The best way is for you to create a Wiki editing account, which we
can then activate; then you can add this yourself, and also edit
anything else you notice needing editing.

All we need is your Wiki user name, and we can give you editing privileges.

Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

Hi,

I'm trying to add my Python book to the beginner books page, but I guess it
has some strict permissions set to avoid spam. If you could allow my
account name:

MartinJones

to edit that would be great, or if I could give the details and somebody
else make the edit then just let me know.

Thanks,
Martin

Yes, that's correct. The spam completely drowned out legitimate edits,
exactly as per the original Spam Song from the other Pythons. But with
just a modicum of human interaction, we've managed to get it down to
just eggs, bacon, spam, and sausage, which doesn't have much spam in
it...

You're all set to make changes. It's sad that the spammers force us to
this kind of thing, but at least it's a one-off - you should be able
to make edits forever now.
