Hello good afternoon,
Please keep us in mind if any larger purchases may be on the table soon. Alliance also provides working lines of capital which has been very helpful for quick capital situations. It may be early, equipment comes and goes so let me know when to be ready if anything comes up. Thanks!

Thanks Tara. This happens all the time, but automated systems spot and
reject most attempts. That particular page should only be editable by our
Trusted Editors group, so I'm sure they'll be happy to investigate and
remove what is certainly undesirable content.

I've copied the web admins, who I am sure will have it sorted out in fairly
short order (modulo the availability of volunteer time).

Kind regards,
Steve Holden

Thanks for pointing this out, Tara, and thanks Steve for passing it
on. I had a look at the page and can't find the link in question; has
it already been removed, or am I just looking in the wrong place? I
will definitely look into removing it (and removing editing privileges
from any abusive users).

So as a further followup, this has been going on in many places, and
most people are concluding it's a scam. It happened to come across a
different place I'm subscribed to... I'm not sure I'm suspicious enough
to completely endorse their conclusion, but here's what a part of the
gcc team responded - the report of their "bad links" were on sites that
mirror old libstdc++ content and are way out of date (the official pages
have long since had the reference to the expired site removed). Do we
deserve praise or blame for reacting more politely, I wonder? :)

Just FYI to people who reacted to our go-round with this.

As I'm sure you realise, we can't remove the links because they're not
on our website. Please stop this link farming, your site has already
been reported to google so will not get any boost in page rank from
your pathetic attempts to promote it.

Also, your pathetic attempts to create links from the mailing list
archives don't even work because the links get removed, see:

https://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-help/2019-07/msg00050.html
https://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-help/2019-07/msg00051.html

You're getting blocked from posting to our lists now, goodbye.

Good Morning Steve,

When I go to the below page, it says immutable page and I can not edit it.
https://wiki.python.org/moin/BeginnersGuide/NonProgrammers

Can you give me access to edit this page? Also, can I create a profile
page on Wiki?

Thx,
Matt

I can't see that the page has any particular roles that would keep any
editor from editing. It probably means you're not actually logged in...
or the wiki name that got entered into the editors list doesn't match
your real wiki name.

hsts is indeed the last entry in the editors file, so not quite sure....

best I can see, the name in the editors list is "hsts". It apparently
should be "MattZand", but that name is not in that list. Oddly, I can
see that a page was changed by MattZand:

2019-07-08
[https://wiki.python.org/moin/BeginnersGuide?action=diff]
 	BeginnersGuide 05:29 [INFO] ?MattZand

so now I'm pretty confused too. If the openid attached to a wiki
account can be in the list instead of the wiki name itself its news to
me (wouldn't be the first time)... but apparently you were able to make
a change once? Is that right? And then a second page didn't work?

it's not a browser issue.

Anybody know what's happening here?

Just a data point: I added the "hsts" username because Matt's original
request said "Pls register me by mahdiumd at gmail.com and my wikiname is
hsts".

I hadn't reckoned it might be an OpenId login - I thought OpenId had been
excised from the python.org infrastructure.

Kind regards,

Hey Guys,

First time that I logged in, It allowed me to edit only one page. My question:

1- Do you have to have OpenID to edit wiki page and if yes, what is my OPenID?

2- Can you create a new account with below info:
Name: DWM
email: dcwebmakers at gmail.com
password: m123ZZ55

Then, try to login on your end to see if it allows you to edit below
wiki pages:
https://wiki.python.org/moin/PythonTraining
https://wiki.python.org/moin/BeginnersGuide/NonProgrammers

Once you test it and give me your confirmation, I reset password.

Best,
Matt

First of all, please stop sending us passwords! We do not want to know what
your password is. You should never share passwords with anyone.

Wiki editors are expected to be reasonably security-aware, and this
correspondence is not giving me much confidence.

Please create a new Wiki account using an entirely new identity, and tell
us ONLY THE ACCOUNT NAME. If you can persuade someone to add that name to
the editors list you will be good to go. I personally won't take that
responsibility, given that we are subject to regular attacks.

Kind regards,
Steve Holden

Thanks for letting me know. My non-profit org (High School Technology
Services) offers Python training to High School Students. We also have
another site for teaching Python to adults. We are currently sponsor
of Python Foundation. I want to add my org to below pages.

https://wiki.python.org/moin/PythonTraining
https://wiki.python.org/moin/BeginnersGuide/NonProgrammers

We also offer free Python tutorials and community events via our site
and Meetup groups in DC.

Can I give you my site info and you just add them there.

Best,
Matt

Sounds like a plan, I will make the changes and propose an edit.

Yes please add me (MattCallaghan) to the EditorsGroup.

(though of note, attempts to login at the moment are gateway timing out, maybe a blip)

Thanks Chris - and I completely agree with your point.

What is the community's preference to that consideration?

The simplest solution I see is to add a "top header / block" that says

the summary of:

"It is Python3 going forward, officially as of Jan2020. This page is

largely out of date, but kept for historical reference as it provides

value for maintaining legacy Python2 systems."

Hi,

I wanted to add myself as a Python training provider in in the wiki (see

I really tried, but I just can't even make an account :) I keep getting 504
gateway error.

Could you help me with this?

Kind regards

It has "issues" (it's actually a fairly long-standing problem). All we
can advise at the moment is keep trying. If you drop a line to
pydotorg-www at python.org someone may be able to help add you if you can't
hit a window when it's responsive and once that's done, to add that
account as an editor.

As a measure to avoid SEO spam, those pages are locked, editable by trusted

Are you trying the regular wiki login, or one of the linked services
(openid)? The latter seems to be what is causing trouble; the plain
text-based login seems to consistently work fine for me.

Hoping people who know more about the details of the infra have their
ears on...

text-based login seems to consistently work fine for me.

Hoping people who know more about the details of the infra have their

ears on...

Hello,

I would like access to edit the pages that list web hosting companies
for Python, particularly the following two:
https://wiki.python.org/moin/OtherCommercialHosts
https://wiki.python.org/moin/SpecializedCommercialHosts

They contain a lot of outdated data (including for the organization I
work for, https://www.ICDSoft.com), and individual entries do not appear
to be ordered in a particular way, which I would like to help fix.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,
Stanimir

Out of interest, what order are you planning on?

But more importantly: What wiki user name do you have?

Hi,

Silly me - my username is StanimirDjevelekov.

I am thinking of alphabetical order, as both standard and fair for all
the listed companies/providers - the only other option I can think of is
the entries' last date of modification, but I don't think that it would
be a better choice.

Thanks,
Stanimir

We have this issue on a number of other pages (in fact, we have some
past history of people (apparently) trying to improve their "search
rank" by moving their entry up). Alphabetical is at least a fair, if
arbitrary, approach (waiting for somebody to rename their company
AAAABest, paper-telephone-book style :)) ... do add a note to the effect
that the list should be kept alphabetised to avoid further confusion.

Ummm, the instructions suggest that's not a good choice, notice the
"please don't use spaces" bit.... maybe it's irritating, but we do
prefer people actually read the stuff....

Creating a Wiki account

In order to sign up for a wiki account, please go to the Create new
account form, enter your account name (using the format
FirstnameLastname to avoid issues - please don't use spaces in the name)
