Hello,

Our company has recently launched a new AI-powered website builder Zyro
<https://zyro.com>. And, of course, it uses Python.

I would like to know if it's possible to get featured on this page -
https://wiki.python.org/moin/OrganizationsUsingPython?

The wiki is publicly editable, so anyone (*) can add to it. We will not
make value judgements of whether any particular project, tool or company
is worthy of being listed.

* - "anyone" is slightly restricted because of the plague of Internet
spambots, editing is limited to people on the editors list, for which we
request a human actually pop up and explain why they're interested in
editing, a requirement you've already met.

If you want to be an editor, write back to the list with your wiki name,
which is what's necessary to enable it.

==

As an editorial note (more to the team than to Simonas), I don't really
see a whole lot of value in that page any longer. You'd be hard pressed
to find a company of any size that doesn't use Python for something
today, and it's absolutely impossible to keep up with - the community
basically isn't even trying any more. According to the page history, we
had one edit in January this year, since then the previous edit was in
2013. It's likely to not only be out of date, but quite inaccurate as,
especially for websites, there's been a lot of evolution.

No problem. Whatever the edit is you're planning to do, you should be
able to do it now. (Normally we'd ask you in advance what you're
planning, as it's a great way to weed out bots, but I'm fairly
confident you're legit.)

This has been enabled for editing, have at it.

Usually for bigger pages we have some guidelines like "add yourself in
alphabetical order to the right section" to avoid some unfortunate wars
we've had in the past betweeen competing editors successively putting
their material at the top, but there's no apparent ordering within each
category now, so it would be hard to enforce that. So will just leave
the suggestion at: "be nice!". (grin).

 ??? Hello;

 ??? My name's Jo?o Ramos, 41 years old, from Portugal. I'm taking a
Python online course and already have some background in C.

??? I have been using Python documentation many times in order to get
the necessary knowledge to learn how to write Python. I'm really
interested in translating some of your documentation in my native
language: Portuguese.

??? I haven't found many pages translated to Portuguese and the few
that are, they're in Brazilian Portuguese which is not quite right, and
some of those it's clear that who did it, simply made copy paste in
Google translator and in some cases, it doesn't make much sense.

??? I would love to participate in this task, and help others
Portuguese guys like me to learn Python language easier.

??? So, I've created an account to start and now I'm writing to you
because first, I'm not able to edit my homepage and second, I'm reaching
you to let you know what my intentions are.

??? May you consider my offer and let me participate in the translation
of some of your documentation?

 ??? Thank you;

 ??? Regards;

 ??? Jo?o Ramos

Welcome, Jo?o!

The best place to introduce yourself with respect to helping with
Portuguese translations of the documentation would be the python-docs
mailing list (more information available at
https://mail.python.org/mailman3/lists/docs.python.org/).

Thank you for expressing an interest in helping out!

Hi,

I'd like to edit this to update some stuff (there are broken links, and
outdated packages), as well as to include a reference to Scalene, a Python
profiler I developed that offers a number of useful advantages over other
profilers.

Thanks,
-- emery (Scalene developer, among many other things)

>From https://github.com/emeryberger/scalene:

Scalene is a high-performance CPU *and* memory profiler for Python that
does a few things that other Python profilers do not and cannot do. It runs
orders of magnitude faster than other profilers while delivering far more
detailed information.

   1. Scalene is *fast*. It uses sampling instead of instrumentation or
relying on Python's tracing facilities. Its overhead is typically no more
   than 10-20% (and often less).
   2. Scalene is *precise*. Unlike most other Python profilers, Scalene
performs CPU profiling *at the line level*, pointing to the specific
lines of code that are responsible for the execution time in your program.
This level of detail can be much more useful than the function-level
   profiles returned by most profilers.
   3. Scalene separates out time spent running in Python from time spent in
native code (including libraries). Most Python programmers aren't going to
optimize the performance of native code (which is usually either in the
Python implementation or external libraries), so this helps developers
focus their optimization efforts on the code they can actually improve.
   4. Scalene *profiles memory usage*. In addition to tracking CPU usage,
Scalene also points to the specific lines of code responsible for memory
growth. It accomplishes this via an included specialized memory allocator.

Below is a table comparing the performance of various profilers to Scalene:

ProfilerTimeSlowdown

cProfile 11.04s 1.65x

Hi,
My name is Noufal Ibrahim and I do Python trainings. I'm based out of
India. I have a little section describing my offerings at
https://wiki.python.org/moin/PythonTraining#India but it's out of date.
I'd like to have it edited to the following piece of text. I'd
appreciate if that could be done. My wiki username is NoufalIbrahim.

I no longer have access to my old wiki.python.org account but got a
bounce message (via postmaster) today which related to an attachment
added to the BeginnersGuide page:

https://wiki.python.org/moin/BeginnersGuide

The page history shows a deletion and addition of the attachment in
quick succession. I don't know if the old one was bogus, but the new
one certainly seems to be. It's a JPEG with a .pdf extension. Someone
probably should check it out and perhaps restore the old attachment or
remove it altogether.

This looks strange:

What is "111" as editor ?

The original PDF was attached in 2010:

This is the new file which was uploaded under the same name:

That's a multiplayer game. The old PDF maps to the same JPG file.

I'll remove it, but also find it strange that we can have editors with
name "111". Perhaps there's a vulnerability lingering somewhere.

Thanks,

something's going on - these edits are credited to "111" which is not an
editor in the editors list.

yesterday I got notification of another change made by "48" (actually
these numbers were part of IP addresses, why aren't they coming in under
a username) - that one left the page in a conflicted state.

It looks like someone might be trying out a breakin?

When hovering over "111" in the info page you get this information:

This suggests that someone without login (but the given IP address) is
accessing the page. The IP address maps to Beijing, China.

It seems that all pages are editable without login... just tried a
few.

This is bad. Perhaps someone changed the server configuration.

There are no changes on the server, but I see this in the EditorsGroup:

Looks like the empty entry give anonymous users access to EditorsGroup

I'll remove the entry again.

Fixed and added a note to not add empty list entries to the list.

Pages are no longer world editable.

Thank you! Very very much appreciate the work you do to keep the wiki
going. It has a good few oddities to it and folks like me have no idea
what's going on sometimes, so it's awesome that you're able to find
and fix problems so promptly.

Thanks Piyush,

I have forwarded this email to our web development team.

I rather doubt the information is up to date, since I don't think Mercurial
is used to maintain the source for the site. You will notice that the most
recent referenced date in the .hg directory is around eight years go.

Kind regards,
Steve
