I'm fascinated because this is a rare opinion.  Most people I've talked
to are initially frustrated by version control but quickly get used to
it.  I haven't run into too many people who don't get used to it.  Just
out of curiosity, is there any one thing in particular that caused the
majority of the stress?  If you don't like Mercurial, have you
considered looking at Git?  Also, systems like GitHub (for Git) and
Bitbucket (for Mercurial) can make hosting easier.

Part of the reason that DVCS seems like a no-brainer is that it makes it
tons easier to collaborate, both from the standpoint of the contributor
and the maintainer.  At least in my experience.

Version control would certainly make it easier for others to contribute
scratches (if that makes any sort of grammatical sense). ;-)
