From marilyn at pythontrainer.com Tue Jan 7 21:00:55 2014 From: marilyn at pythontrainer.com (Marilyn Davis) Date: Tue, 7 Jan 2014 12:00:55 -0800 (PST) Subject: [PyOP] New Years Python Classes: lots of choices Message-ID: <57131.50.161.27.186.1389124855.squirrel@mail.tigertech.net> Happy New Year! Several new Python classes are starting for experienced programmers and for novices to programming at UCSC-Extension Silicon Valley's labs in Santa Clara, right across 101 from the Great America sign. FOR NOVICES Next Monday evening, Jan 13, we start a 6-Monday-evenings course for novice programmers: http://course.ucsc-extension.edu/modules/shop/index.html?action=section&OfferingID=3576274&SectionID=5274048 If you can't attend an evening course, we are holding a day course that will be all day long, 3 Wednesdays: Jan 22, 29 & Feb 5: http://course.ucsc-extension.edu/modules/shop/index.html?action=section&OfferingID=3576274&SectionID=5274049 Take the evening course if you can, it is better to learn more slowly and have more practice time when you start a new discipline. FOR EXPERIENCED PROGRAMMERS If you have programming experience in any language skip the courses listed above and join a Programmers' class. The Programmers' course is low-pressure, but fast-paced, where students learn and practice core concepts and Pythonic thinking. To join any of these Python classes, you should be well-practiced at programming in some other language. No beginning programmers please, but you can certainly be new to Python. A 9-Thursday-evenings course starts Jan 23. http://course.ucsc-extension.edu/modules/shop/index.html?action=section&OfferingID=1531625&SectionID=5274066 If you can't make the evening course, the other choice is 4 Wednesdays, all day: Feb 12, 19, 26 and Mar 5: http://course.ucsc-extension.edu/modules/shop/index.html?action=section&OfferingID=1531625&SectionID=5274067 ---- All our Python courses are hands-on with short lectures, and lots of exercises where we study the solutions after some lab time. Questions are always welcome; discussion and pair-programming are encouraged. Please come, and send students! ONLINE CLASSES: If you would prefer an online class, you will enjoy: http://course.ucsc-extension.edu/modules/shop/index.html?action=section&OfferingID=1531625&SectionID=5274065 The online site for this course will open to enrolled students on Jan 14, but new enrollments will be accepted until Feb 18. And, the first quarter of the professional course is available for $20 at Udemy.Com! I'm so busy that I can't say when the rest of the course will be there, but I'm working on it. https://www.udemy.com/pythonic-python-part-i-the-basics/ I hope you find one of these classes useful to your schedule and your taste.
