It's normal if you consider this code in translator/c/genc.py:

SPLIT_CRITERIA = 65535 # support VC++ 7.2
[...]
        if py.std.sys.platform != "win32":
            split_criteria_big = SPLIT_CRITERIA * 4
        else:
            split_criteria_big = SPLIT_CRITERIA


Old versions of Visual Studio had problems with large files.
Even today, debug information is wrong when lineno>65536.
