It might be a tad more friendly to present actual costs in a man-hour
estimate, perhaps something like this?

-    - **Estimate cost**: 35.000 $
+    - **Estimate cost**: 350 hours (+/- 35000 $)

Or at the very least state elsewhere how you came up with the
financial numbers... This may also be conducive for companies that
would rather loan you a capable engineer for a few months, perhaps?

One textual nit: "Note that the distinction between sub-steps 1.1 and
1.2 is blur, and it": blur -> blurry.

In general, great idea to take a whack at putting numbers on this,
helping the community understand how much work this project is.
