Tannit (which does the automatic linux-64 builds) has GCC 4.8.2, so even
something that old should work. I'm not sure if it differs from 12.04 in
any other way. I build pypy regularly on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (has gcc 5.4.0)
as well as Debian Jessie (with gcc 4.9.2).
