New submission from Franck Pommereau <franck.pommereau at gmail.com>:

Dear PyPy developers,

The following code fails with PyPy but works well with CPython (2.5 to 3.1) and
Jython (2.5.1):

>>>> import _ast
>>>> class Foo(_ast.AST): pass
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<console>", line 1, in <module>
TypeError: type 'AST' is not an acceptable base class

Is there any reason for that and could it be fixed?
Or is there any workaround?

I could reproduce that issue with both PyPy 1.4.1 and 1.3.

Many thanks for your help!
Franck
