New submission from zelegolas <zelegolas at gmail.com>:
When I run PyPy 1.5 (official release) on my Mac I have this:
Python 2.7.1 (b590cf6de419, Apr 30 2011, 03:30:00)
[PyPy 1.5.0-alpha0 with GCC 4.0.1] on darwin
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
And now for something completely different: ``"peephope" optimizations are what
an optimistic Compiler uses''
And on my Mac with OSX 10.6.7 + Xcode 4 the latest version of GCC it's not GCC
$ gcc --version
i686-apple-darwin10-gcc-4.2.1 (GCC) 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5666) (dot 3)

Could you build PyPy 1.5 with GCC 4.2.1 and don't change the name of the alpha
version to a release name
