I think implementing it in pyrepl probably makes sense.  Sorry for taking such a

In the mean time I found that the inputrc on my system is added by the
debian/ubuntu packaging and is not part readline itself... not that this matters
much I guess, I doubt many people are using pypy with hardware terminals :-)
