Ah.  I remember indeed that I added special-casing code for min(a,b).  A bit
unclear what to do; we can extend the special case to min(a,b,c), which is still
ok, but we shouldn't use it in general for min(a,b,c,d,...,y,z) because it
creates a series of many guards, each of which can fail.
