kleptog had a good idea.  I'll bet it applies to a lot of code not just the
code he is working on now.  Pasted in here so we don't lose it, and besides
it may make a good sprint topic for the people we meet at noisebridge
today.

<kleptog> I'm following the real-rffi branch and there seem to be a lot of
commits just to convert the results of external using intmask(). Surely it would
be more useful to arrange for externals to always return real ints (rather than
rffi). ISTM you rarely need the rffi return value...

<arigato> kleptog: I agree -- even if for some reason you really need the
rffi.INT result, you can cast it back
