[PyPy-issue] [issue715] maximum recursion depth exceeded

New submission from felix <felix8a at gmail.com>:

on OSX and linux, pypy fails with "maximum recursion depth exceeded" at what seems to me fairly low
depths, like about 1000-2000 deep.

this isn't affected by sys.setrecursionlimit, which is fine. however, it doesn't seem to be affected by my
stacksize ulimit either. pypy fails at the same recursion depths, regardless of how much I increase my
stacksize ulimit.

attached is a file I'm using as a test. on OSX it fails for me at 1042 or 1883.

I haven't tried stackless yet (buildbot seems to be broken)
