New submission from Guillaume Bouchard <guillaume.bouchard at liris.cnrs.fr>:

I just tested pypy 1.7 on very poor implementation of path tracing I wrote for
fun. (it is mainly a copy/paste/rewrite version of the C smallpt)

pypy1.7 runs slower than 1.6:

$ time pypy1.6 smallpt.py 640 480 4
Rendering (4 spp) 99.84%~/src/pypy/pypy-1.6/bin/pypy smallpt.py 640 480 4
36.56s user 0.07s system 99% cpu 36.771 total
$ time pypy1.7 smallpt.py 640 480 4
Rendering (4 spp) 99.84%~/src/pypy/pypy-1.7/bin/pypy smallpt.py 640 480 4
53.31s user 0.14s system 99% cpu 53.768 total

$ pypy1.7 -V
Python 2.7.1 (7773f8fc4223, Nov 18 2011, 18:47:11)
[PyPy 1.7.0 with GCC 4.4.3]
$ pypy1.6 -V
Python 2.7.1 (d8ac7d23d3ec, Aug 17 2011, 11:51:19)
[PyPy 1.6.0 with GCC 4.4.3]
