The problem really is slightly deeper - numpy string shares string methods by 
having the same memory layout. We can't do that, but we can try to do something 
else, like reuse string methods. This requires refactoring of the string stuff, 
because it's a mess.

The reason why npp.array("foo") is an infinite loop is that s[0][0][0][0][0]... 
will always be iterable. Not sure what to do, we should probably "just" 
specialcase string and unicode
