We would love to see a reasonable way on Linux to make binary programs that run
anywhere, short of distributing fully static binaries.  If we linked with
libssl.so.0.9.8, it would fail to work on some other distributions.  We picked
1.0.0 as the way forward.  Sorry, you'll have to install libssl.so.1.0.0 on your
distribution for this to work.  (If you're paranoid about security, then I don't
see how a fully static binary with openssl 1.0.0 included would help...)
