I measured now on Linux64 on tannit:

- pypy1.7: 20 seconds
- pypy1.8: 26 seconds
- trunk: 17 seconds

Of course I don't know if the particular problem was fixed, or if there is still
a factor 26/20 to be gained...  but I suppose we can say "fixed" unless someone
comes up with a different example.
