The nightlies I linked to are binaries. For older linuxes you have some here: 
http://baroquesoftware.com/nightlies/

The crash is in CPyExt, the CPython API compatibility wrapper. There has been 
many improvements since the 1.9 release. Sure, I'll try it out (and I'm sorry 
2.0 is not out yet)
