Sorry guys, boto is what andrewsmedina has described.
I have pinpointed the problem to the time it takes to retrieve messages from  
the queue.
I will supply a test script shortly, but you will need amazon subscription to 
test this.

10 messages are a big thing because it is the maximum batch one can retrieve 
from amazon sqs
I performed tests retrieving 1,2,3 ... etc and in all occasions pypy is very 
slow
