10000 loops, best of 3: 47.3 usec per loop
$ ./pypy-c -m timeit -n 10000 -s "a = '1'*5000" "tuple(a)"
10000 loops, best of 3: 129 usec per loop
$ python -m timeit -n 10000 -s "a = '1'*5000" "list(a)"
10000 loops, best of 3: 48.2 usec per loop
$ ./pypy-c -m timeit -n 10000 -s "a = '1'*5000" "list(a)"
10000 loops, best of 3: 157 usec per loop
