Yes, this helps. Overhead is reduced to 0.7s if I disable both plugins.

Keeping cov only takes about 2s.

Keeping mpl only takes about 7s.

Neither of these seems satisfactory, frankly, but I'll go take up my issue
with pytest_mpl.
