I think it's important that some truly free toolset such as
mingw remains an option. In fact I think it's even more important
than the free MS compilers. The trouble with their so-called
free compilers is that they don't *stay* free -- any given
version is dangled tantalizingly in front of us for a year or
two and then whisked away.
