Might it make things clearer to use something other than the X/
frozenX nomenclature?
bytes -> b'HELO' -> immutable octet list
bytebuf -> mutable octet buffer (current bytes() objects)
buf = bytebuf()
buf.append(read(1024))
print buf
bytebuf(b'HELO')
